CANTON, OH — An Ohio woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl at a park and telling her mother she hopes the child dies as police took her into custody.

According to the Canton Police Department, officers responded to a reported assault Friday afternoon on the 1600 block of Clark Avenue SW. When they arrived, they detained Destany Scott, 20, at the scene, where she was reportedly in a heated argument with the child’s mother, Paige Dishong.

Dishong told officers that Scott had gotten into a physical altercation with her daughter at a nearby park, during which Scott allegedly slammed the child’s head repeatedly against the metal part of a slide, according to a police report obtained by WOIO.

As officers arrested Scott, she allegedly told Dishong that she hoped the 11-year-old girl would die, according to the police report.

The comment prompted Dishong to charge at Scott, resulting in her own arrest. Dishong now faces charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. She is scheduled for arraignment on May 2.

Dishong’s daughter told WOIO that Scott ran up behind her and attacked her.

“She, like, grabbed me by my hair and threw me up against the ground,” the girl explained.

Scott has been charged with assault and disorderly conduct. She pleaded not guilty during her arraignment on Tuesday and is scheduled for a pretrial hearing next week.

Police say they have video evidence of the alleged assault, which remains under investigation.
