MACON, GA — A Georgia woman was arrested after her newborn was found abandoned in a trash bag outside her home.
Authorities say 22-year-old Alaynah Marie Rappuhn gave birth to the child before placing it and the bag on the porch as she went to the hospital.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the incident was called in around 1:08 p.m., on March 31, 2025, when deputies responded to the Piedmont Macon Emergency Room located at 350 Coliseum Drive in response to a female individual who came in for care due to excessive bleeding.
During the investigation, it was discovered that Alaynah Rappuhn was brought to the hospital when her boyfriend noticed her condition at home.
Police say Rappuhn placed a trash bag on the back porch before leaving the residence inside the 1300 block of Payton Street. After transporting Rappuhn to the hospital, her boyfriend returned home to retrieve some belongings when a noise caught his attention coming from the bag.
Upon checking the bag, the infant was found wrapped in towels.
The infant was immediately transported to the hospital, and was last reported to be in critical condition.
Investigators say Rappuhn had her child after 4:30 a.m. that morning. She then wrapped the child in towels and placed him inside a trash bag. Hours later when leaving to go to the hospital, she left the bag on the back porch.
It was reported that Rappuhn did not let her boyfriend know that she was pregnant, or that she had the child when he came home. It was also reported that Rappuhn did not notify medical staff that she had the child upon arriving for medical treatment.
On April 1, 2025, at 5:48 p.m., investigators took Rappuhn into custody after her release from the hospital and transported her to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
Rappuhn has been charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony Murder, Reckless Abandonment of a Child, and First-Degree Cruelty to Children. Her bond has been denied.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
