BELTON, TX — Police say a toddler nearly died when a car’s moonroof closed on his neck while his mother was collecting a DoorDash order.
Angela Celeste Moreno, 24, was arrested on Wednesday stemming from an investigation into an almost fatal incident involving her three-year-old son.
Police say the incident occurred on October 10, 2024, at around 9 p.m., when officers and EMS responded to a restaurant on the 2800 block of North Loop 121, in Belton, Texas, for a report of a child who was unconscious and not breathing.
When officers arrived on scene, they located restaurant staff performing life-saving measures on the boy.
The boy’s mother, Moreno, reported she had left her two sons, three-years-old and one-year-old, inside of her car, unsecured and unattended, while she went inside the restaurant to collect a DoorDash order before making the delivery, authorities said.
Moreno left the boys unattended for approximately 10 minutes, police indicated.
When she returned to the car, it was discovered that her three-year-old son had climbed to stick his head out of the moonroof and accidentally shut it on himself with the button on the ceiling of the car. He was unable to reopen it, constricting his neck and breathing.
The boy was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he survived.
Following the investigation, detectives screened the case with the Bell County District Attorney’s office, who accepted a charge of injury to a child on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Moreno was held in the Bell County Jail until posting $50,000.00 bail on Thursday.
