FRISCO, TX – An altercation during a high school track meet ended in the death of a 17-year-old student, leading to a murder charge against another student involved in the incident.

Authorities say first responders were dispatched to Kuykendall Stadium, in Frisco, Texas, after a 17-year-old stabbed another 17-year-old during a confrontation around 10 a.m. on April 2, NBC 5 reported.

The victim was identified as Austin Metcalf.

Despite lifesaving measures by police and fire personnel, including CPR and blood transfusions, Metcalf died.

His father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC 5 his son was killed when another student armed with a knife got upset after being told he was sitting in the wrong spot.

Austin’s mother spoke with WFAA and said she got a phone call from the victim’s identical twin, Hunter, screaming that Austin had been stabbed. She rushed to the hospital, arriving just ahead of the ambulance, only to witness the medical team bring her son inside.

Described as a bright and ambitious young man, Austin had aspirations of playing college football and had caught the attention of scouts. “He was the most amazing kid,” his mother said, struggling to come to terms with her loss. “His goal was to play in college.”

Hunter, who shared a close bond with his brother, tried to intervene during the altercation, he told WFAA.

“I tried to whip around as fast as I could, but I didn’t see the stab,” he said, his voice filled with sorrow. “I mean, I tried, I tried to help him.”

The twins were not only brothers but also teammates in both track and football, sharing a deep connection that was evident to those around them. “He knew how much I loved him, how much I do for him,” Hunter reflected.

WFAA reported the suspect was identified as 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony. He is in custody and charged with murder.
