HERNANDO COUNTY, FL — A Florida teen is accused of allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend in a brutal attack and leaving her for dead in a nature preserve.

According to the Hernando Sun, Abbriella Elliott’s body was discovered by a hiker on March 27, about 50 to 100 feet inside the Cypress Lakes Preserve Trailhead in Hernando County, Florida.

Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis reported that a witness saw Elliott leaving her home around 1 a.m. that morning, believing she went “to go meet an individual who was likely the person who killed her.”

Nienhuis said during a press conference it was evident there was “a lot of passion and a lot of violence” involved in Elliott’s death.

“We were relatively confident that it wasn’t a random act,” he added. “It was nothing short of very violent.”

The sheriff indicated that the teen was likely killed with an “edged weapon.”

On March 28, Cameron Cubel, 16, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder in connection with Elliott’s death, according to Fox 13 WTVT.

Nienhuis indicated that Elliott was acquainted with her alleged assailant, but declined to provide further details.

Elliott’s parents told WTSP that Cubel is their daughter’s ex-boyfriend and that they had broken up six months prior to the incident.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
