OCALA, FL – Fueled by rage after being told to move out of her parents’ house, a Florida woman fatally stabbed her father, tried to kill another victim, then changed clothes and went shopping, authorities say.
A jury on Monday found 33-year-old Christina Anne Adams guilty of Premeditated First-Degree Murder and Attempted First-Degree Murder with a Deadly Weapon, the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office announced.
Circuit Judge Timothy McCourt handed down the sentence of two life terms without the possibility of parole.
The charges stem from a September 16, 2022 incident in Ocala, Florida, when Marion County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call on SE 70th Terrace reporting a stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies discovered two victims with multiple stab wounds.
One of the victims, 74-year-old Richard Langer, identified Adams—his own daughter—as the assailant before succumbing to his injuries.
The second victim, whose identity has not been released, survived the attack and has since been recovering.
Investigators quickly located Adams during a traffic stop. She was traveling with her wife, who told detectives she had met Adams after running errands and noticed nothing unusual. But Adams’ own statements to law enforcement did not match, and under further questioning, she confessed.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Adams admitted she became enraged after being told she would have to move out of the home she shared with the victims. In a fit of anger, she retrieved a large knife and attacked both individuals, stabbing them repeatedly.
“[Adams] later told detectives that she was angry over being asked to leave the home that she shared with the victims,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a release, according to ABC News. “Adams stated she retrieved a large knife and then attacked both victims, stabbing them multiple times “Adams stated after she believed the victims were deceased, she attempted to destroy evidence and then left the location. Adams told detectives that following the attack, she changed her clothing and went shopping.”
The case was marked by harrowing testimony and graphic evidence, including the dying declaration of Richard Langer, whose final words identified his daughter as the attacker—an admission that proved pivotal for the jury.
Chief Assistant State Attorney Walter Forgie said in a statement, “Our fundamental duty is to seek justice, and in pursuing this goal, we strive to provide closure for the victims and their families while ensuring accountability for those responsible. Today, as difficult as it has been for the victims and their families, I believe we’ve gotten just that.”
Adams will now serve two concurrent life sentences in a Florida state prison.
