DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Police say a mother and her young daughter were shot and killed in their own home—and the suspect allegedly threatened violence in the past.
According to a news release issued by DeKalb County, police were dispatched around 2:48 p.m. on June 13 to the Forest at Columbia Apartments, located in the 2500 block of Columbia Drive.
Inside one of the units, officers discovered 29-year-old Tomekia Pullins and 7-year-old Dior Scott suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were unresponsive, and despite the efforts of first responders, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the suspect, 48-year-old William Almond, forcibly entered the apartment after being denied entry. Witnesses reported that Almond broke a window and then fired multiple rounds inside, striking both Pullins and Scott.
Almond fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody.
According to police, he is the estranged husband of Pullins and the uncle of Dior Scott.
Almond appeared before a magistrate judge over the weekend but remains in jail, as only a superior court judge can rule on bond in a case involving charges as serious as double murder.
Speaking with Channel 2 Action News, Nakita Bruce, Pullins’ mother and Dior’s grandmother, said the fatal shooting didn’t come as a shock.
“They was actually in the midst of serving him papers but couldn’t find his whereabouts,” she told reporter Tyisha Fernandes.
Bruce explained that her daughter had been trying to leave Almond for several months and had voiced her fears about his threats to her family.
“He done told us plenty of times if my child don’t come back to him he would pop every kid in here, he don’t care who it is, he will kill everyone in this house,” Bruce said.
She added that several relatives were inside the apartment during the attack, and Almond allegedly attempted to harm more people.
“He tried to get in through the door, but he couldn’t, so from my understanding, he went to the window, and by my camera, he shot through the window,” Bruce recounted.
The court confirmed that no restraining order was officially on file at the time of the shooting.
A spokesperson told Fernandes that this doesn’t necessarily mean Pullins didn’t attempt to file one—it may simply indicate the process had not yet been completed, according to WSB-TV.
Almond remains in custody as the legal process unfolds.
