CHELAN COUNTY, WA — Nearly a month after the horrifying discovery of three young girls’ bodies at a remote campground in Chelan County, Washington, the man accused of killing them—32-year-old Travis Decker—remains at large.

Despite a sprawling search involving hundreds of personnel and multiple agencies, authorities say there is still no certain evidence that Decker is alive or remains in the area.

According to a news release issued Monday by the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, search efforts have consumed thousands of hours and drawn support from dozens of regional and federal partners, including the U.S. Marshals Service, which has now joined the hunt using its fugitive-tracking resources.

“Seemingly strong early leads gave way to less convincing proofs over the last two weeks of searching,” the news release stated. “Still, we can’t and won’t quit this search; Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia Decker deserve justice.”

The girls—Paityn, 9; Evelyn, 8; and Olivia, 5—were found dead on June 2, several days after their mother reported them missing.

According to NBC News, the children were discovered zip-tied and with plastic bags over their heads near the Rock Island campground, located about 130 miles east of Seattle. Their father, who was supposed to return them to their mother that week, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

As the official search enters its fourth week, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office says it continues to patrol heavily in the Teanaway Valley, Blewett Pass, Liberty, and Lauderdale regions—areas with dense forest and rugged backcountry where Decker may be hiding or may have perished.

Search crews, including K9 units and wilderness trackers, have combed miles of terrain and followed “dozens and dozens and dozens of potential sightings, tips, and leads,” the agency stated. But none has yet led to Decker’s location.

“There is no certain evidence that Decker remains alive or in this area,” officials repeated in their latest update. “Some search resources are being redirected to find and recover Decker if he died in the rugged wilderness during this intense search—a possibility that increases every day.”

Authorities continue to describe Decker as armed, dangerous, and potentially capable of surviving for extended periods in the wild.

According to court documents cited by NBC News, Decker had refused court-ordered mental health treatment and domestic violence counseling, and declined to sign a court-imposed parenting plan. He had a history of instability, which culminated in what law enforcement now calls one of the most tragic crimes in recent Washington history.

The KCSO urges the public to remain vigilant, particularly hikers, cabin owners, and those living in or visiting the affected regions.

“We still believe public awareness and help is our best tool,” the sheriff’s office said. “Whether it comes from a cabin owner who finds something out of place, a hiker in the Enchantments who discovers evidence our searches missed, or anyone else.”

Fox 13 Seattle reported the U.S. Marshals Special Operations Group, which is working with the Border Patrol Tactical Unit and the King County Sheriff’s Office in search efforts, released photos that show them searching for Decker in the Colchuck Lake area.
