Affidavit of Probable Cause
On 03/12/2023 at 1504 hours West Mifflin Police Dispatch received a call from Allegheny County 911 notifying us that a female identified as ███████ was being treated at UPMC Mercy Hospital emergency room for a stab wound that she reported receiving while at her apartment, ██████████████ in the Borough of West Mifflin. In addition, ███████ said that the male was the father of her children identifying him as Michael Faulk, and that he was currently at the apartment with her children. Officers responded to the apartment and made contact with Faulk who was inside the apartment standing on the second floor. Faulk was ordered to the first floor and was detained on the scene until further information could be obtained from ███████. While Officers were on the scene several blood drops were observed on the apartment’s second floor and the steps leading to the second floor.

I, Detective Opferman, responded to UPMC Mercy Hospital emergency room and interviewed ███████ in emergency room #11. ███████ advised me that she had been arguing with Faulk today and during the argument, over the course of an hour he struck her in the face with his hand, kicked her in the chest, choked her to the point of unconsciousness, and stabbed her in the right leg. I asked ███████ to describe the knife that Faulk used to stab her and she described it as a “chef’s knife” with a gray and black handle.

I observed the stab wound to ███████’s right upper leg and recent red marks around her neck that she was being treated for. In addition, ███████ complained of shoulder pain that she sustained when Faulk kicked her down the steps during the assault which was causing shortness of breath.

Verbal/Written consent was obtained from ███████ to enter her apartment to process the scene. Sgt. Sabol photographed the interior of the apartment and located the black and gray knife in the children’s second-floor bedroom concealed in the bedroom closet. The knife was brought back to West Mifflin Police Department and entered into evidence.

Based on the above affidavit I respectfully request that Faulk be charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Strangulation, and Harassment.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
