SCOTRUN, PA — A Pennsylvania mother faces two counts of criminal homicide after her husband and their 3-year-old son were found stabbed to death inside a guest room at Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, was charged in the deaths of Charles Harrison and their son, according to Boston 25 News and WGAL’s reporting on the probable-cause affidavit. The child’s name had not been released; Boston 25 reported that the criminal complaint identified him by the initials T.H.
A 911 Call Brought Officers to the Room
Pocono Township police responded around 3:13 p.m. on Oct. 12 after Harrison called the Monroe County Control Center. According to the affidavit described by WGAL, she sought help dying and told a dispatcher that her husband and son were already dead. Investigators said she never requested medical assistance for either of them.
Officers encountered Harrison at the doorway with a bleeding wrist and wounds around her neck. Police said she told them she wanted to be with her husband and son. Inside, officers found Charles Harrison and the boy dead on separate mattresses on the floor. Charles had multiple stab wounds to his chest; the child appeared to have one chest wound, according to investigators.
Harrison was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital–Monroe Campus in Stroudsburg, accompanied by a police officer. Investigators said she made repeated statements during the ambulance ride about not being supposed to survive and described wanting a happy family. Authorities reported no other injuries, bruising or apparent defensive wounds beyond the injuries to her wrist and neck.
Knives Recovered and Surveillance Reviewed
Investigators reported finding a large butcher knife on the bathroom floor and a smaller knife on the bathroom sink. Both had teal-green handles. Resort employees told police the knives were not the type maintained by Great Wolf Lodge, according to the affidavit.
Police also found medication bottles throughout the room and containers holding liquid they believed was blood. Harrison made statements about medication use and continued self-harm during the ambulance ride, according to WGAL’s account of the affidavit.
Resort security personnel told investigators that the family checked in Sept. 21, extended its reservation Oct. 5 and was scheduled to leave Oct. 13. Police reviewed surveillance footage showing all three family members entering the room at 6:53 p.m. on Oct. 11.
Harrison left at approximately 8:12 p.m. to use a microwave in a vending area and returned four minutes later, investigators said. She and Charles then left around 10:43 p.m., visited the arcade and returned about 11:22 p.m. Police reported no further activity at the room’s door after the couple returned.
Investigation Remains Active
Police obtained search warrants covering the hotel, Harrison and Charles’s vehicle in the resort parking lot, WGAL reported. Investigators advised Harrison of her Miranda rights at the hospital, where she declined to answer questions. Detectives also collected a cheek swab for DNA testing.
Police described the deaths as an isolated domestic incident and said there was no threat to the community. Great Wolf Resorts expressed condolences and said it was cooperating with law enforcement. The company said authorities had assessed the incident and found no ongoing security concerns.
WGAL reported that Harrison was awaiting arraignment on the two criminal-homicide counts. The investigation remained active, and the reports did not establish a motive.
