ALIQUIPPA, PA – Authorities are searching for a man charged with attempted homicide after senselessly beating an unconscious victim in a bar.

Police responded to the VFW on Penn Avenue in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, for a reported assault around 11:30 p.m. on January 5, according to the Aliquippa Police Department.

Responding officers made contact with the victim who was brutally assaulted.

Police said the offender was identified as 39-year-old Brett Ours, of Aliquippa, who had fled the scene prior to officers arriving.

The victim was in and out of consciousness and had apparent serious injuries. The bar area around the victim was in complete disarray and was consistent with that of a physical altercation, according to police.

The victim was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital via LifeFlight while officers gathered information from witnesses on scene and reviewed video footage of the incident.

Per the video footage, Ours “viciously” attacked and strangled the victim for approximately 30 minutes. The video also showed that the attack was unprovoked and the victim was mostly unconscious and was defenseless throughout most of the incident due to the initial attack.

Ours also used a bar stool to assault and strangle the victim. During the time period of the assault, Ours “took breaks” and would go back to further assault and strangle the victim.

Police noted that no one in the bar called the police during this incident and did not call until after Ours left.

During the investigation, it was determined that others in the bar also played a role in this assault. There was approximately three others in the bar during the time period of the assault, including the bartender. Those persons are still under investigation.

More details on their arrests will be made once the investigation is completed.
