LOUISVILLE, KY — Louisville police have arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with a non-fatal shooting that sent a woman to the hospital on Sunday.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, investigators with LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit said Kenneth L. Beals of Louisville was taken into custody Sunday evening, Dec. 28, after they located him in connection with the shooting earlier that day.
According to LMPD, officers were alerted to the incident after a woman arrived as a walk-in patient at University of Louisville Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police later determined the shooting had occurred in the 2200 block of Wilson Avenue in Louisville’s Park Hill neighborhood. Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for LMPD, told WDRB the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the arm.
Court documents cited by WDRB and WDKY detail the events leading up to the shooting. According to those records, the victim told police that her aunt had seen Beals inside the home eating “a snack that had been brought for her children” as she was leaving. When the victim attempted to enter the house and confronted Beals about the food, the situation escalated. Court documents state Beals responded, “Yes, I ate your snack and it was good,” before allegedly pulling out a gun and shooting the woman in the arm.
Investigators noted in the arrest citation that multiple witnesses identified Beals as the shooter, and authorities confirmed the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, according to WDKY. Police said Beals was arrested later that day in connection with the incident.
LMPD said Beals is charged with one count of second-degree assault and one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He is currently being held at Louisville Metro Corrections as the case moves through the judicial process. According to WDRB and WDKY, his bond was set at $5,000, and he appeared in court for arraignment Monday. He is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 6.
