SOMERSET, KY — A Pulaski County man is facing attempted murder charges after authorities say he attacked two people with a baseball bat during a dispute over shared Wi-Fi access at a Ferguson residence early Saturday morning.

According to a news release from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to an address on Waddle Street in Ferguson around 5:43 a.m. on May 3 after Pulaski County 911 received a report of a violent assault in progress.

Sheriff Bobby Jones said the caller told dispatchers that 44-year-old Jonathan Gross of Ferguson had struck him and his girlfriend with a baseball bat. The caller reportedly managed to escape during the attack and contact emergency services.

When Deputies Dylan West and Zach Huff arrived at the residence, they found a woman outside the home suffering from a severe head injury and bleeding heavily, according to the sheriff’s office.

The woman told deputies she had been struck in the head with a baseball bat by Gross and that he was still inside the residence in a bedroom, investigators said.

Authorities stated deputies repeatedly ordered Gross to come out voluntarily, but after several failed attempts to gain compliance, officers entered the bedroom and took him into custody.

Gross was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication in a public place, according to the sheriff’s office.

Additional details reported by WKRC and Fox 56 indicate the violence allegedly stemmed from an argument over internet access shared between apartment units.

According to those reports, investigators said Gross had been using the victims’ Wi-Fi connection. After the victims turned the Wi-Fi off, Gross allegedly went downstairs to their apartment and threatened to kill them if the internet service was not restored by the time he returned to his room.

Police allege Gross later attacked both victims, striking them in the head with a baseball bat.

Fox 56 reported Gross is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
