ABERDEEN, ID — An Idaho man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say a domestic dispute escalated into a violent assault that left a woman with significant facial injuries and allegations of repeated attacks over several days.

German Zamora Valdez Jr., 43, was arrested Friday and charged with felony domestic battery inflicting traumatic injury, felony attempted strangulation, and misdemeanor intentional destruction of a telecommunication line, according to court documents obtained by East Idaho News.

The investigation began after Bingham County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a property in Aberdeen following a report of domestic violence. According to court records cited by East Idaho News, dispatchers were told that the alleged victim had taken refuge in a neighbor’s RV after an altercation with Valdez. The woman reportedly told dispatchers that Valdez struck her with a table and choked her before she fled.

When a deputy arrived, a man at the property reported seeing the pair arguing before they walked away together, according to the deputy’s report. The deputy then located the woman outside another trailer on the property.

Court documents state that when the deputy asked whether she was the victim, she responded “yes” in what was described as a very weak voice.

According to the deputy’s report, the woman said she had attempted to leave the trailer when Valdez struck her in the face with a blue collapsible table and then “beat her up.” She also alleged that he choked her, causing pain in her head and neck.

The deputy documented visible injuries, including significant swelling near the woman’s left eye and cuts to both her upper and lower lips on the left side of her face, according to court records. WKRC, citing the same court documents, reported that deputies observed large swelling around the eye and open skin on the woman’s lips.

The woman told investigators that she and Valdez had been physically fighting for approximately three days leading up to the incident, according to East Idaho News. After she was struck with the table, she said she tried to retrieve her phone to call for help, but alleged that Valdez got to it first and destroyed it.

She further claimed that as she attempted to leave, Valdez grabbed one of her purses and began tearing it apart. According to court documents, the woman said she armed herself with a pair of pliers in an effort to defend herself. She alleged that Valdez then grabbed her by the neck and repeatedly struck her before tackling her and choking her to the point that she could not breathe.

The woman told deputies she made several attempts to escape. According to her account, she was tackled twice while trying to flee and was tackled again after reaching the street. She said she fought back by biting and scratching Valdez and believed she bit his elbow before finally escaping into a neighbor’s trailer.

Investigators later searched the trailer where the alleged assault occurred and reported finding a broken blue collapsible table, a damaged cellphone, and personal belongings scattered throughout the residence, according to court records.

During a follow-up interview, the woman provided additional details about what she said sparked the final confrontation. According to East Idaho News, she told deputies she had been cleaning when Valdez became upset because she was not paying attention to him. She alleged that he shoved her to the floor, kicked a table toward her, then picked it up and struck her in the face with it.

WKRC, citing the court documents, reported that the woman said Valdez became angry because she was cleaning instead of focusing on him.

The woman also told investigators that Valdez allegedly destroyed her phone because she had recorded video of him abusing her the previous night, according to the report.

Authorities later located Valdez and took him into custody. According to court records, he was booked into the Bingham County Jail with bond set at $150,000.

Valdez is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on June 25.

East Idaho News reported that it contacted Bingham County Public Defender Andrew Hart for comment but had not received a response as of publication.

Valdez could face up to 26 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
