WORCESTER, MA — New emergency radio transmissions are sharpening the timeline from the morning veteran Worcester police officer Kurt Solomon was found dead outside his Wildwood Avenue home, as investigators continue searching for his missing wife days later.
According to Boston 25 News, a dispatcher told officers around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday that a caller reported a man lying in a backyard and not breathing. Officers who responded described severe injuries and said there was blood inside the house. About 20 minutes later, the dispatcher tried calling the reporting number back and reached a voicemail that identified the phone as belonging to Karen Solomon.
Worcester police said Friday that Karen Solomon has been charged with assault and battery and that there is a warrant for her arrest. Police Chief Paul Saucier said she was formally charged Wednesday, the day after Kurt Solomon was found dead and she disappeared. Authorities have said she should be considered armed and dangerous.
Investigators say surveillance video showed Karen Solomon just before 6 a.m. Tuesday on Westcott Street near the couple’s home. Search efforts have continued around Coes Pond, and the City of Worcester announced that Stearns Tavern and Coes Pond parks will remain closed for the foreseeable future as the manhunt continues.
Kurt Solomon, 57, had served with the Worcester Police Department for 31 years and was also a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany. Family members said he was a son, father, and brother. His funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, at Our Lady of the Angels Church in Worcester, with burial to follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton.
