LOS ANGELES, CA — A Florida woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after authorities say she fired multiple rounds at the Los Angeles home of singer Rihanna while the pop star and her family were inside.
Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who was taken into custody Sunday afternoon following the shooting outside the Beverly Crest property Rihanna shares with rapper A$AP Rocky and their three children.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunfire around 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the 9500 block of Heather Road. Investigators determined that a woman in a vehicle fired several rounds toward the residence before fleeing the area.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to NBC4 Los Angeles that Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and their children were home at the time of the shooting. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said Ortiz was the only person inside the vehicle and was arrested roughly three miles away during a traffic stop in the Sherman Oaks area of the west San Fernando Valley, NBC4 Los Angeles reported. She was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
Jail records reviewed by KTLA show Ortiz was arrested at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday and booked early Monday morning. Bail was set at $10,225,000.
Investigators said the suspect fired between seven and nine rounds using what police described as an AR-15-style rifle, according to NBC4 Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reported that approximately 10 shots were fired from inside a vehicle parked across the street from the property’s gate.
A law enforcement source told the Los Angeles Times that at least one bullet pierced a wall of the mansion during the attack.
Police said the suspect fled south on Coldwater Canyon Drive in a white Tesla after the shooting. Officers in a police helicopter tracked the vehicle to a shopping center parking lot in Sherman Oaks, where Ortiz was arrested about 30 minutes after the initial 911 call, according to radio correspondence reviewed by the Los Angeles Times.
“When they pulled the suspect over and took her into custody, they searched the vehicle and located an assault rifle and seven casings,” LAPD spokesperson Armen Arias told the Los Angeles Times.
Authorities said investigators also found bullet holes in the property’s front gate and in an Airstream trailer parked in the driveway.
Officials have not identified a motive for the shooting.
Ortiz has had prior encounters with law enforcement in Florida, according to public records reviewed by the Los Angeles Times. Records show she was involved in a bankruptcy case in 2013, was arrested on suspicion of careless driving in 2021 and was arrested again in 2023 on suspicion of domestic violence battery.
The Orange County, Florida Corrections Department also confirmed to NBC4 Los Angeles that Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence battery in June 2023 and later for violating a domestic injunction.
Investigators also reviewed social media activity believed to belong to Ortiz. According to the Los Angeles Times, she frequently posted videos of herself rapping and dancing while addressing celebrities.
In a Feb. 23 Facebook post cited by the Los Angeles Times, Ortiz tagged Rihanna and wrote, “say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.” Another post referenced the singer with inflammatory language, according to reports.
KTLA reported that a Facebook page linked to Ortiz included a Feb. 23 message directed at the singer that read: “@badgalriri Are you there? Cause I was waiting for your AIDS 5-head self to say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I’m not at.”
Authorities have said Ortiz had no known affiliation with Rihanna or A$AP Rocky.
Neighbors in the quiet hillside community said the gunfire was startling. One resident told NBC4 Los Angeles she was washing dishes when she heard the shots ring out.
“I was a little shocked,” the neighbor said. “We don’t hear this kind of thing in this neighborhood. It’s pretty quiet.”
Police confirmed that no one inside the home was injured. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is expected to formally announce charges in the case.
