Affidavit of Probable Cause
On March 16, 2023, Officer Claflin #4593 and I, Officer Sekerchak #4792 responded to ██████████████ for a report of a Burglary/Home Invasion that just occurred. While en route, Officers were advised that the caller stated a male tried to break in and then took off left the area. Officers were also advised that the male was wearing a blue puffy jacket and was on Lemington fleeing towards Obertin Ave. Officers were backed by K9 Officer Lear.

Upon arrival to the incident location officers met with the caller, identified as ███████.

The following is a summary of statements from ███████:

███████ had a package on his front porch containing various items. ███████ heard someone on his front porch. ███████ then heard someone attempting to enter the side door on the ‘2’ side of his residence. It was noted that ███████s front door does not have a glass window but has a piece of siding in place of where the window was. ███████ heard the door open and observed a B/M identified as Darrell Woodson standing in the doorway. ███████ knew that it was Woodson due to having him stay at the residence for one night about 8 to 10 months ago. Woodson saw that ███████ was standing at the bottom of the steps, Woodson turned and ran out of the door. ███████ stated that Woodson was wearing a Blue Jacket, possibly wearing a hat and in his late 50’s. I observed the damage on the siding where the glass window pane was.

███████ stated that he went outside and observed the package that was located on the front porch was opened. ███████ stated within the package was a Rigid Sawzall and a Handicap Placard. While on scene, I observed the package to be open.

K9 Officer Lear and Officer Claflin got out with a male matching the actors description at Oakdene St. and Mingo St. ███████ was placed into the rear of my patrol vehicle to do a show up and identify the individual that was detained. At approximately 1417hrs, ███████ was able to positively identify the male that was detained as the actor, Darrell Woodson in this incident. I then returned to ██████████████ to take ███████ back.

I went back to the Oakdene, and made contact with Woodson. I was advised by Officer Claflin that Woodson was Mirandized. I asked Woodson where the Sawzall and handicap placard were. Woodson stated that he didn’t have either the sawzall or handicap placard. Woodson stated that he was attempting to get belongings at the residence and that he lived there from March and April of 2021. Woodson stated that he has been attempting to make contact with the ███████ to get his belongings but has been unable to do so. Woodson stated that he hasn’t been at the address for the past few months due to him being incarcerated.

Woodson was placed into custody at 1449hrs. Search incident to arrest yielded positive results for contraband. Officers recovered a small, knotted baggy of suspected marijuana. Officers also recovered a Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana. The Ziploc bag was recovered from Woodson’s blue gym bag that he was in possession of.

Officers called the On-call Burglary ADA and spoke with ADA Olson. ADA Olson was advised of the incident.

Officers were unable to located the stolen Sawzall and Handicap placard.

Woodson was transported to Allegheny County Jail without further incident.
