WESTMINSTER, MD — Wendy Osefo, a cast member of Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Potomac,” and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested October 9 in Maryland on fraud charges related to a staged burglary and insurance claims.
Dr. Wendy Osefo, 41, faces 16 charges, including seven felonies and nine misdemeanors. Eddie Osefo, also 41, faces 18 charges, including nine felonies and nine misdemeanors, according to court records reviewed by Access Hollywood.
The couple was booked in Westminster following a grand jury indictment that included allegations of insurance fraud, conspiracy, and making false statements to law enforcement, according to court documents cited by ABC News.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office stated that the charges stemmed from false reports made to police about stolen property. The investigation reportedly began after inconsistencies emerged in the couple’s statements and evidence collected from the scene.
Authorities say the Osefos reported a break-in at their Finksburg residence in April 2024 while they were away on a Jamaican vacation. The couple claimed that about 80 items were stolen, including jewelry, designer clothing, and luxury accessories. The total value of the alleged losses was estimated at more than $450,000, as reported by TMZ.
Investigators later found discrepancies in the couple’s account. Surveillance footage, receipts, and social media posts allegedly contradicted the timeline of the reported theft. Some of the items listed as stolen were reportedly returned for refunds, and Wendy Osefo was seen wearing jewelry that had been declared missing.
The couple was released on October 10 after posting $50,000 bond each, as confirmed by the Carroll County Detention Center.
On October 19, Wendy Osefo addressed the situation publicly for the first time in an Instagram post. “Thank you for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers for myself and most importantly my family during this time. We are forever grateful,” she wrote. She also added, “And through it all, GOD remains faithful,” and encouraged viewers to tune in to the latest episode of “RHOP.”
Wendy Osefo is a Nigerian-American political commentator, public affairs academic, and television personality. She joined the cast of “Real Housewives of Potomac” in 2020 and has been a regular presence on the show since then.
Court proceedings are expected to follow in the coming weeks. No trial date has been announced.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
