PONTIAC, MI — A former Michigan doctor was sentenced Dec. 2 to up to 60 years in state prison after pleading no contest to 31 felony counts of sexual misconduct.
Oumair Aejaz, 41, was sentenced in Oakland County Sixth Circuit Court. The ruling closed the criminal phase of a case in which he secretly recorded dozens of women and children, including his own family.
The investigation began in August 2024 when Aejaz’s wife alerted authorities that he had filmed her, their two minor children, and female relatives inside their home.
Detectives later found hidden camera footage of victims at Goldfish Swim School in Rochester Hills, along with recordings taken in hospital rooms and bedrooms, CBS Detroit reported.
Prosecutors said Aejaz pleaded no contest to 31 felony charges, including criminal sexual conduct, child sexually abusive activity, computer crimes, and distributing illicit images.
A no contest plea is one where the defendant does not admit guilt but admits the state has enough evidence to secure a conviction.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard called the crimes “absolutely unconscionable.” Prosecuting Attorney Karen D. McDonald said the lengthy prison term ensures Aejaz “will never again harm another victim,” though she acknowledged the lasting impact on survivors.
Bouchard praised detectives and the computer crimes unit for their “tireless and successful work” in securing the conviction.
Aejaz practiced at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township and Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township. His work as a physician is now at the center of multiple civil lawsuits.
In October, three women sued Henry Ford Hospital, alleging Aejaz recorded and sexually assaulted them while they were patients. The suits claim the hospital failed to act on their complaints.
Henry Ford Health told People magazine it was “deeply disturbed” by Aejaz’s conduct, emphasizing he was an independent physician with privileges at its facility. The health system said it fully cooperated with law enforcement and prioritized patient safety.
Attorney Matthew Piccirilli of Fieger Law said a related class action lawsuit was settled in October. Victims were included if Aejaz’s name appeared in their medical records.
Piccirilli noted that after initial payments, victims could seek additional compensation if video evidence existed or if they provided statements of being recorded or assaulted.
Prosecutors said multiple investigations tied to the case remain ongoing.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
