FOLEY, AL — Kaitlynn Grace Dominick, 22, of Daphne, was arrested May 26 and charged in the death of her 17-month-old son after investigators said she injected a lethal liquid mixture into the boy’s feeding tube.

According to WFTV, citing Alabama reports from WALA and WKRG, the child died May 5 and the criminal complaint alleges the mixture contained table salt and another liquid. Authorities said the boy had a medical condition that required him to use a feeding tube.

Investigators said the case drew scrutiny after medical staff at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Mobile made a mandatory report to the Alabama Department of Human Resources when the boy was brought to the hospital by Dominick on May 4. Sheriff’s office spokesperson Capt. Justin Correa said elevated laboratory levels raised alarms for attending physicians, and the inquiry turned from a general death investigation into a criminal case.

Correa said investigators believe Dominick had enough experience with the feeding tube to understand what she was doing and that the act appeared intentional rather than accidental. Judge Langford Floyd set her bond at $75,000 on Wednesday, and Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office records showed she was released from custody on Thursday.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
