A mother in Oklahoma is accused of drunkenly attempting to abandon her infant children at a gas station so she could leave and engage in sexual activity.
Amber Adams, 27, was arrested earlier this year and charged with two counts of felony child neglect, according to court documents.
On June 6, 2024, a witness at the Oklahoma City 7-Eleven called 911 after observing Adams, who appeared intoxicated, pull into the station and stop at a gas pump. The caller told 911 that Adams exited the vehicle, opened the passenger door, and “grabbed a baby” by the arm, treating the child as if it were a “rag doll.” She then allegedly “tossed the baby to the ground.”
While attempting to remove a second child from the car, a friend who had been in the vehicle intervened and placed the first child back inside, Oklahoma City Fox affiliate KOKH reported.
It remains unclear which child was removed from the car, but KOKH reported that one child was four-months-old and the other was 11-months-old.
After placing both children back in the vehicle, Adams reportedly drove away from the station. The witness provided police with a description of her car, and officers were able to stop her a few miles away.
In an interview with police, Adams allegedly confessed to drinking wine and tequila that evening. She claimed she had been trying to contact the children’s father to arrange a custody exchange but was unable to reach him.
Adams told officers that her plan had been to leave the children at the gas station, drop a pin to the location, and send it to the father so he could “come and pick up the children,” KWTV reported.
She also admitted to leaving the children behind in order to get some “slingy sling,” and when asked for clarification on the phrase, she allegedly explained that she was going to someone’s house to “f***.”
Adams’ friend, who had known her for only about two months, told police that he had once seen her drink four shots of tequila while in the car with the children, according to KOKH.
During the interview, Adams, so intoxicated she reportedly told police her six-year-old child had jumped out of the car that evening, prompting a frantic search. A neighbor told KWTV that there were about 12 police vehicles in the area as officers searched with flashlights. Authorities later found the six-year-old safe and staying with a family member.
Initially released without formal charges, Adams posted on social media after her release, announcing plans to sell t-shirts with her mug shot for $10 each, KWTV reported.
A warrant for Adams’ arrest was issued on July 17, 2024, and a judge set her bond at $50,000. She is no longer in custody.
