EAST WINDSOR, CT — A 1-year-old boy died Saturday after he was left alone in a pickup truck at a Rockville Road strawberry farm, and his father was later arrested.
According to WTNH, East Windsor police were called to the 100 block of Rockville Road at about 2:24 p.m. after Kevin Pell said he’d gone back to the vehicle and found his son blue and not breathing.
Officers found Pell, 47, performing CPR when they arrived, and the child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, where he was pronounced dead. Pell was arrested on a risk of injury to a minor charge and was being held on a $1 million bond.
Additional reporting from Hearst Connecticut Media said Connecticut State Police’s Major Crimes Squad was asked to assist the investigation, while East Windsor detectives sought search warrants and canvassed the area.
Hearst also reported Sunday that the death was being investigated as heat-related, the pickup truck’s windows were closed when officers arrived, and police were still working to determine how long the boy had been inside. More charges were possible as the investigation continued and an autopsy was pending.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
