LAWRENCE, KS — Authorities say an elementary school employee in Kansas is accused of sexually assaulting up to eight young students.
According to a news release earlier this month, police announced the arrest of 60-year-old Mark Elliott Gridley after parental concerns of events that happened at Prairie Park Elementary School in Lawrence, Kansas.
The Kansas City Star reported Gridley was employed as a speech and language pathologist at the school.
At the time, investigators confirmed there were “more than two victims.”
Police said the scope of the investigation then expanded to include students who were not receiving services for speech at the school.
On Thursday, February 27, Lawrence Police said a new charging affidavit was submitted requesting charges be filed against Gridley to increase the total to eight victims.
All allegations made against Gridley thus far reportedly occurred at Prairie Park Elementary School over a two-day period from February 6 to February 7.
The victims range in age from six to eleven years old.
Lawrence Police said they do not anticipate releasing any additional information related to this case to “minimize the already enormous impact on the lives of the children and their families.”
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
