ALTOONA, PA – Police say a school crossing guard in Pennsylvania is facing serious felony charges related to the alleged repeated sexual assault of a local teenager.
According to court records, 73-year-old Ronald Rossman was charged for sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl on approximately five occasions during the summer months.
Court documents obtained by WJAC reveal that the victim, described by police as having a “developmental delay that impacts her speech and behavior,” identified Rossman as a crossing guard in the area. The teen also reportedly told investigators that she frequently visited Rossman’s residence, located in her neighborhood, to assist him with tasks around his home.
The affidavit details the victim’s account of the first alleged assault, stating that Rossman purportedly locked her inside his garage and began making sexual advances. Police say the victim reported that Rossman then “forc[ed] himself” on her and raped her in the bed of his truck.
Further allegations from the teen describe additional assaults, including claims that Rossman violated her with sex toys and a candlestick. Investigators say the victim also alleged that Rossman compelled her to perform other sexual acts and made her take a pregnancy test.
During questioning by investigators, Rossman reportedly claimed that the victim had behaved promiscuously and had even exposed herself to him. Police say Rossman did admit to purchasing a pregnancy test for the teen, stating that she had repeatedly suggested she was pregnant.
Authorities noted that Rossman’s account shifted multiple times during the police interview, which led to a search of his home and garage. The complaint states that officers allegedly discovered several items in Rossman’s garage that matched the victim’s descriptions, including the candlestick and various sexual items.
Police also reported finding the victim’s DNA in multiple locations within the garage, including on a folding table that she alleged was the site of one of the assaults.
Online court records indicate that Rossman was arraigned on Wednesday on nearly a dozen charges. These charges include felony rape by forcible compulsion, statutory sexual assault, and unlawful contact with a minor.
Rossman was briefly held in jail on a $250,000 bail but has since posted bond.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
