ENGLEWOOD, CO — An 18-year-old Wyoming man was arrested Monday at a Colorado water park after police say he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a child inside a bathroom.
According to CBS News Colorado, Trenton Moskovita of Cheyenne is accused of luring a child into a bathroom and assaulting them at the Pirate’s Cove Family Fun Aquatic Center, in Englewood, Colorado.
Details in the arrest affidavit obtained by CBS News from the Englewood Police Department allege that Moskovita covered the child’s mouth to prevent them from screaming. The child later ran from the restroom and immediately told their parents what had happened.
The child’s mother reported the incident to a park employee, who called police. That employee later told officers the child was “visibly upset” and “crying so hard” they “couldn’t speak,” according to the arrest report.
The child’s name and gender were redacted in official documents, and the station has withheld identifying details in accordance with its policy on reporting sexual assault cases.
When officers arrived at the park, the employee pointed out Moskovita as the suspect. Officers detained him, but Moskovita allegedly resisted, claiming that he was being misidentified and that he had triplet siblings at the park, CBS News reported.
Investigators reviewed security footage from the facility, which they say showed Moskovita leading the child into a bathroom. The two remained inside for approximately nine minutes, after which the child is seen fleeing alone, according to Denver7.
Moskovita was transported to the Arapahoe County Detention Center, where he declined to speak with officers and requested a lawyer. He is currently being held on a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday for the formal filing of charges. As of midweek, he is being represented by a public defender.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
