BELMONT, MA — A Belmont Middle School teacher is facing two counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and child pornography after investigators arrested him over the weekend, according to officials.
Authorities said 45-year-old Leon Dyer was arrested Saturday by the Massachusetts State Police Cyber Crime Unit Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Crime Scene Services, and the Belmont Police Department. Investigators also found that Dyer worked as a teacher and at a camp in Middleboro, Massachusetts.
According to Boston 25 News, Belmont Superintendent Jill Geiser said the school system has no information at this time suggesting Dyer engaged in inappropriate conduct with Belmont Public Schools students, on school property, or in connection with his job. Geiser said Dyer is not permitted on school property and that his school-issued technology accounts have been suspended.
Geiser also said Dyer had been properly screened under district protocol, including Criminal Offender Record Information checks and Statewide Automated Fingerprint Identification System checks. Dyer is expected to be arraigned Monday, July 27, 2026, in Cambridge District Court, and officials said parents seeking resources can contact the Middlesex Child Advocacy Center.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
