RICHMOND, VA — A 65-year-old Henrico man has been sentenced to six years in federal prison after investigators said he spent at least 16 months requesting and receiving child sexual abuse material through an anonymized peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

According to a U.S. Department of Justice release, David Brent Timberlake received the sentence Wednesday in Richmond in a case tied to a massive cache of child sexual abuse files recovered from devices seized at his home.

Federal authorities said the FBI searched Timberlake’s residence on Jan. 25, 2023, and seized more than 100 digital devices and pieces of digital media. A forensic review of part of that evidence found 52,343 files depicting child sexual abuse material, including 48,312 still images and 4,031 videos.

Prosecutors said 634 of those files involved toddlers or infants, while another 306 involved sadistic or masochistic conduct. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge David J. Novak, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian R. Hood.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
