PATASKALA, OH – Police say an Ohio woman was reportedly killed by a neighbor’s pig on Christmas Day.
According to WBNS, Pataskala police were called to perform a welfare check on Rigney after she failed to show at a holiday celebration on December 25.
When police arrived at her home, they discovered her deceased on the steps of her front porch, with injuries to her legs. As the officer secured the scene, a large pig appeared nearby.
Police determined the animal belonged to Rigney’s neighbor.
Authorities believe that the pig may have contributed to the injuries Rigney sustained, WBNS reports.
Officers discovered at least two pigs at the neighbor’s residence and instructed the owner to quarantine them until further notice.
The Licking County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Rigney died from bleeding caused by extensive superficial injuries from livestock. The coroner also noted that Rigney had pre-existing health conditions. Her death has been ruled accidental, according to reports.
“This is a very quiet neighborhood. Nothing happens here,” a neighbor told WBNS.
The coroner’s office has stated that a full report on Rigney’s death will be available within six weeks. Meanwhile, the investigation remains ongoing.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
