According to the criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Court Daequan Tyree Butler, Pittsburgh PD offciers responded to a third-party report of a violent domestic at a residence on that date. While en route, police received a first-party call from the female involved in the incident, who claimed that her boyfriend, identified as Daequan Tyree Butler, had attempted to stab her.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim, who stated that Butler had fled the residence.

According to the complaint, the victim alleged that Butler struck her multiple times in the face, neck, shoulder, and ribs with a closed fist, threw her to the ground, and strangled her with her own arm to the point where she thought she would lose consciousness.

The complaint further states that Butler made multiple comments about killing the victim if she called the police. He retrieved a large knife from the kitchen, advancing towards the victim with the knife above his head as if he was going to stab her. The victim’s daughter reportedly stepped in front of Butler before he could get to the victim, and Butler threw the knife down before leaving the residence.
