MIAMI, FL — A Miami-Dade jury found Daisy Link guilty of second-degree murder on October 16 in the 2022 shooting death of her partner, Pedro Jimenez.

Link, 30, showed little emotion as the verdict was read in court. She now faces a possible life sentence. The jury deliberated for roughly two hours before reaching a unanimous decision, according to CBS Miami.

Prosecutors said Link fired one shot during a domestic dispute, hitting Jimenez in the foot and thigh and cutting his femoral artery. He died from blood loss shortly after the incident.

The state also presented bodycam footage and surveillance video showing the aftermath of the shooting, including Link’s statements to police.

During the trial, Link testified that she feared for her life when Jimenez attacked her after seeing another man inside the home. “He grabbed me by the hair and threw me to the ground,” she said, according to Court TV coverage.

Link’s attorneys submitted medical records and police reports detailing alleged abuse by Jimenez. They argued she fired the shot in a moment of fear and desperation.

Prosecutors countered that Link acted out of anger, not fear. “When Mr. Jimenez turned and ran in fear, she fired a single shot,” a prosecutor told jurors, as reported by CBS Miami.

The case gained national attention not just for the murder charge, but for Link’s pregnancy while she was in solitary confinement at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

In 2023, Link became pregnant by fellow inmate Joan Depaz, even though the two were never in direct contact. Investigators concluded the pregnancy resulted from an inmate-to-inmate insemination scheme involving contraband and communication through air vents.

Jail officials confirmed that the pregnancy was not the result of staff misconduct. The incident prompted a review of facility protocols but no disciplinary action was taken. Link gave birth to a daughter in June 2024 and remains in custody.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled. Prosecutors have not sought the death penalty.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
