CASS CITY, MI — Larry Pardue, 41, was arraigned Monday in Tuscola County District Court on an assault with intent to murder charge and a string of additional felony weapons counts after Michigan State Police said he fired a shotgun at his roommate and then barricaded himself inside a home for hours.

According to a report from MLive, troopers from the Michigan State Police Caro Post were first sent to the scene around 3 p.m. Saturday, May 30, after a report of a domestic assault at a home near Cass City and Schwegler roads in Tuscola County.

Police said troopers were dispatched to contact a man who had been waving down cars on the road. That man told troopers that his roommate, Pardue, had fired a shotgun at him before he ran for help.

State police said Pardue was armed with a shotgun and barricaded himself inside the house. When troopers tried to communicate with him, he refused to come out.

The standoff lasted until just before 11 p.m., when authorities apprehended Pardue. During the response, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was called in, along with the agency’s bomb squad and an aviation unit.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

In addition to assault with intent to murder, prosecutors charged Pardue with five counts of felony firearm, two counts of weapons possession by a prohibited person, one count of ammunition possession by a prohibited person, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-offense domestic violence.

A judge set bond at $500,000.

Court records show Pardue is scheduled to return for a probable cause hearing at 8:15 a.m. June 10 and for a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m. June 17.

Police also said the man who reported the shooting had valid warrants and was arrested as well, then lodged in the Tuscola County Jail. Authorities have not publicly identified him.
