LOS ANGELES, CA — Britney Spears has voluntarily entered rehab weeks after her March DUI arrest in Ventura County.
CBS LA reported that a representative for the singer said Spears checked into rehab after she was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence in Southern California.
California Highway Patrol officers took Spears into custody on March 4 after authorities said they received reports of a speeding car on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County. When officers located the vehicle, they said Spears appeared to be impaired and arrested her on suspicion of DUI after field sobriety tests.
Authorities have not released the results of the chemical test that was taken after the arrest. Spears, 44, was released from custody early on March 5.
At the time of the arrest, Spears’ representative described the incident as “unfortunate” and “completely inexcusable.” The representative said Spears would take the right steps, comply with the law, and seek the help and support she needs.
CBS LA reported that it contacted the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office to ask whether Spears’ decision to enter rehab could affect her upcoming court date, which had been scheduled for May 4.
Spears last performed publicly in 2018 on her “Piece of Me” tour, which came during her 13-year court-appointed conservatorship. A Los Angeles judge ended the conservatorship in 2021 after a lengthy legal battle. Since then, Spears has remained active on social media and published her memoir, “The Woman in Me”, in 2023.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
