AKRON, OH — A 23-year-old Hartville man pleaded guilty Tuesday to vehicular homicide and drunken driving charges in a crash that killed 18-year-old Isabelle Grubaugh in Summit County.

The case stems from a May 2025 single-vehicle wreck on Massillon Road in Springfield Township. According to a report from cleveland.com, George Taylor also pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and operating a vehicle under the influence with a breath-alcohol concentration of 0.17 or higher.

Prosecutors said Taylor was driving a Volkswagen sedan when it slammed into a telephone pole with enough force to split the car in half. Grubaugh, who was riding in the passenger seat, was found dead inside the vehicle.

Authorities said officers who spoke with Taylor smelled alcohol on his breath and noticed that his eyes were red and glassy. Prosecutors said he failed multiple field sobriety tests, and a breath test later measured his blood-alcohol concentration at 0.204%, far above Ohio’s legal limit of 0.08%.

Police also searched the vehicle and found an empty jar of moonshine along with two additional open and partially full alcohol containers, according to prosecutors.

Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced June 8 in Summit County Common Pleas Court. Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said in a statement that Grubaugh’s family should never have had to endure the loss caused by Taylor’s reckless actions.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
