LOS ANGELES, CA — A 30-year-old woman was killed in a violent two-car crash in Koreatown early Friday after a collision near Eighth Street and Ardmore Avenue sent one vehicle into a pole and the other careening into parked cars, a fire hydrant, and other street fixtures.
According to KTLA, with additional details reflected in follow-up local reporting, police were called around 12:35 a.m. to the 3300 block of Eighth Street after the wreck. Investigators said the crash involved a silver Mercedes SUV and a black Toyota before the destruction spread across the block.
The Toyota driver was pulled from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified her only as a 30-year-old woman, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was expected to formally identify her. The second driver was taken to California Hospital Medical Center with injuries and was later arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI.
Reporting from the scene said the crash damaged at least three parked vehicles and also struck a fire hydrant, sending water high into the air. Witnesses told investigators the suspected DUI driver had been speeding in the area before the collision. Police said the case was not being investigated as a hit-and-run, and investigators had not yet determined the exact cause of the crash or confirmed how fast the vehicles were traveling before impact.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
