NEW BRAUNFELS, TX — A 27-year-old man was killed and a 3-year-old child was injured in a head-on crash that led to an intoxication manslaughter charge against a pickup driver and the arrest of his passenger.
According to KSAT’s report citing the New Braunfels Police Department, officers responded around 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, to the 2500 block of FM 725, where a pickup truck and a sedan had collided head-on. Both men arrested had been in the pickup.
The sedan’s driver, a New Braunfels resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 3-year-old passenger was taken to a San Antonio hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Police identified the pickup driver as Rafael Alejandro Arreguin-Ramirez, 25, of Mexico. Officers said he showed signs of intoxication at the scene. He was taken to a New Braunfels hospital for what police described as a “blood search warrant,” then booked into the Guadalupe County Jail.
Arreguin-Ramirez was charged with intoxication manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The report did not provide a blood-test result.
The pickup’s passenger, Alejandro Aguillen Acosta, 23, of Mexico, ran from the crash into a nearby neighborhood, according to police. Officers found him hiding in a garage and arrested him without incident.
Acosta was taken to a local hospital as a precaution before being booked into the Guadalupe County Jail. Police said he was charged with evading arrest or detention and criminal trespass of a habitation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
