PINELLAS PARK, FL — A person was shot aboard a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus in Pinellas Park on Sunday morning, sending the victim to a hospital and prompting a search that ended with a suspect in custody.

Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. to the area of U.S. Highway 19 North and 49th Street North, where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound on the bus. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries authorities described as non-life-threatening.

According to reporting from WFLA and FOX 13 Tampa Bay, the suspect fled the bus after the shooting and was later located near Freedom Lake Park, where police took that person into custody without further incident.

Authorities haven’t released the names or ages of the victim or suspect, and they also haven’t said what led to the gunfire aboard the bus. Police said the investigation remains active and that there’s no current threat to the public.

PSTA spokesperson Amanda Baird said the transit agency wouldn’t comment while the investigation is ongoing.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
