SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Two attorneys defending Tyler Robinson in the killing of Charlie Kirk will also represent former Utah Rep. Trevor Lee, who faces felony fraud charges after pushing legislation to name a Salt Lake City street for Kirk.
Court documents filed Monday and Tuesday identify Kathryn Nestor and Wendy Lewis as Lee’s attorneys, ABC4 reported. Both lawyers are members of Robinson’s defense team. The new filings concern Lee’s separate prosecution; the report does not describe a new ruling, charge or evidence development in Robinson’s case.
The overlap draws attention because Lee sponsored a bill during Utah’s 2026 general legislative session to change Harvey Milk Boulevard in Salt Lake City to Charlie Kirk Boulevard. In a September 2025 interview with ABC4, Lee said he wanted people to remember Kirk after his assassination in Utah.
Lee was charged September 28 with four felonies involving alleged communications fraud, mortgage fraud and forgery. He resigned from the Utah House of Representatives later that day.
According to ABC4’s account of the allegations, Lee requested cash advances from a company to show increased income and forged the company CEO’s signature to obtain a housing loan. He allegedly submitted a forged employment contract and a loan application that included $93,000 in cash advances.
Nestor and Lewis also represented Kouri Richins, the Kamas mother convicted of murdering her husband, ABC4 reported.
Lee had represented District 16 in Davis County since 2023. After losing his reelection bid, he had been expected to leave office in January 2027.
On Wednesday, the Davis County Republican Party announced it would not hold a replacement election to fill Lee’s seat before November’s midterm election. Commissioner Bob Stevenson, the district’s Republican nominee, will attend interim legislative meetings before the new legislative term begins, according to ABC4.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
