The remains of a South Carolina woman, who was missing since September, were discovered in a well last week.
According to WPDE, the Darlington County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Monday that the remains found on December 4 were identified as 49-year-old Shamra Hope Cassidy Felkel.
The coroner had ruled Felkel’s death a homicide.
Court records show Daniel Peele was arrested on the same day the remains were found, facing charges of murder, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice.
Peele appeared in court on Tuesday, where he was denied bond for the kidnapping and obstruction charges. His murder charge hearing is scheduled for January 22.
According to arrest warrants, Peele strangled Felkel before disposing of her body in a well.
Felkel had been last seen on September 25, but she was not reported missing until October 7.
Felkel’s daughter, Kasey Wolfe, revealed last week that she had received a tip directing her to search a location near her mother’s property in Hartsville. After asking a family friend to investigate the area, the friend discovered the remains.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
