ELKO, NV – Police have arrested a Nevada man on murder charges following a child abuse investigation that began on New Year’s Eve.
According to the Elko Police Department, 37-year-old Donald Rosenauer of Elko, NV, was arrested for open murder on Friday, January 3.
The investigation was initiated after police were contacted on December 31 by the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital regarding an unresponsive seven-month-old girl in the ER.
Both the child’s parents allegedly told police that the infant had “rolled off of a couch,” which they claimed caused her injuries. However, medical personnel reported that the girl had a brain bleed, hemorrhaging in both eyes, and bruising on her chest, suggesting the injuries were consistent with trauma rather than a simple fall.
The injuries were consistent with an acute traumatic event, police said.
Investigators concluded that Rosenauer was alone with the infant when the traumatic injuries leading to her subsequent death occurred.
The infant was airlifted for specialized care but was taken off life support on January 3.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Corporal Checketts at (775) 777-7310 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
