PHARR, TX — Police say a Texas man choked and killed his juvenile brother.

According to ValleyCentral, 24-year-old Brandon Garza allegedly strangled his seven-year-old brother to death during an argument around 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, in the 900 block of W. Caffrey Avenue, in Pharr, Texas.

He has been charged with capital murder.

Police say responding officers discovered Garza with a blood stain on his shirt and forehead, according to a criminal complaint.

Garza stated he and his younger brother engaged in a verbal argument, which “escalated and turned physical.”

Court documents indicate Garza “choked him out”, when referring to the victim.

Garza also told investigators that he punched his brother several times in the face and then threw him on the floor. He proceeded to pin him down and wrapped his right hand around his brother’s neck to apply pressure to the point where he went unconscious, court records said.

First responders performed CPR at the scene until EMS arrived to take over.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, and died shortly after.
