SPRING HILL, TN – An Indiana man is behind bars for allegedly murdering his pregnant girlfriend in Tennessee.
On January 20, at 6 a.m., officers were requested to check the welfare of residents at a house in the 2000 block of Gale Lane, in Spring Hill, Tennessee, because of a phone call that was received by a dispatch center, according to a news release.
Officers went to the house and located a 30-year-old woman who had sustained “fatal wounds.”
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office detained the person who placed the phone call, who was identified as Vidol Wegner, 29, of Indiana.
Police said Wegner was in a relationship with the deceased woman.
Wegner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony murder. The woman was pregnant at the time of her death.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WSMV, Wegner allegedly admitted to strangling the victim with “both hands around the neck and his forearm.”
Police also believed the victim suffered stab wounds, WZTV reported.
Wegner spoke out in an interview with ABC affiliate WKRN, saying “Listen, when I started that relationship, I told her, ‘If we get pregnant, are we going to do something about it?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ She found out 10 weeks in; she said, ‘I want to keep it.’ I’m like, ‘Didn’t we have that conversation? I’m not doing this.’”
Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
