WINTER SPRINGS, FL — A Florida woman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting a man in the head, who was angry that their 8-year-old son soiled his pants.
Court documents show 39-year-old Laurie Adams pleaded guilty on Tuesday, February 11, to first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm.
According to an affidavit filed by the 18th Judicial Circuit, officers were dispatched to an apartment in Winter Springs, Florida, for a report of a shooting in the early morning hours of June 5, 2024.
The caller—later identified as Laurie Adams—she had shot someone in the head. She went on to say she had grabbed a gun and shot a man who “threatened to hurt her son.”
Responding officers were greeted by Adams, who proceeded to sit on the ground before she was detain. Officers then discovered 51-year-old Adel F. Tawfeek sitting on the back porch with a gun shot wound to the head. He later died at a hospital.
In a preliminary interview with investigators, Adams explained she engaged in a verbal altercation with Tawfeek after he began to yell at their eight-year-old autistic son, the affidavit said.
An arrest report indicated Adams became upset around 11:30 p.m. on June 4 after he noticed their son “had pooped his pants.” She said Tawfeek was yelling at her and the child. After she cleaned up the mess and put the child to bed, Tawfeek continued to yell at her and pushed her up against a wall.
The arrest report states Adams “calmed down” before going into Tawfeek’s closet, grabbing his gun, and loading it. She then walked out to the living room where she found Tawfeek smoking on the porch. Adams walked out to the porch where she shot Tawfeek in the head. He was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m.
