MIAMI, FL — A Florida man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his teenage girlfriend, whose death followed a heated argument that ended with him throwing her body in the backyard.

According to a news release, 20-year-old Dominique Domond was arrested in connection to the murder of 17-year-old Janise Barthold on February 10, 2025, in Miami, Florida.

Investigators say Domond and Barthold were “boyfriend and girlfriend” and became engaged in a “heated” argument. The argument escalated into a physical altercation which ultimately led to Barthold’s death.

According to WTVJ, deputies received reports of an unresponsive woman in the backyard in the 107th block of N.E. 2nd Avenue.

Responding officers met with Domond’s mother who led them to Domond who then brought them to where the victim was.

Barthold was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after deputies arrived.

According to an arrest report, investigators learned from Domond’s mother that her son and Barthold had a verbal altercation that became physical and ended with Domond pushing Barthold out of the home.

The mother further said her son claimed he was attacked by an unknown man and Barthold while he was at the home and he fought them off and pushed the victim into the backyard, arrest documents indicated.

In an additional interview at the station, Domond made inconsistent and conflicting statements about the incident, but admitted he had a physical encounter with the victim, according the report.

Domond denied after some time that there were any other people in the residence and eventually admitted he strangled Barthold during an argument, killing her, and throwing her in the backyard.
