BRADENTON, FL — A Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend’s mother in 2022.

Albert Wilcox, 44, was convicted of second-degree murder after a jury trial in connection to the death of Sherline White in Bradenton, Florida, State Attorney Ed Brodsky announced.

Wilcox was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The crime was committed on February 26, 2022, when Wilcox was displaying “aggressive behavior, firing a gun into the air, and arguing with his girlfriend’s mother, the deceased victim Sherline White, prosecutors said.

During this argument, Wilcox pointed his gun at White while she sat in the driver’s seat of her car preparing to leave. He fired eight times and struck her five times, killing her instantly, according to authorities.

The Bradenton Herald reported “someone” called 9-1-1 just before 9:30 p.m. to report that Wilcox pointed a gun at White. The call abruptly ended, and dispatchers were unable to reach the caller again.

“Due to the excellent work of the Bradenton Police Department and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, the defendant was quickly apprehended after fleeing to Glades County, and he confessed to the crime,” lead prosecutor in the case, Assistant State Attorney Suzanne O’Donnell, said in a statement. “This was a senseless crime that should not have happened and now Ms. White’s family must bear the pain of her loss. Hopefully this life sentence will provide some comfort to them.”

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
