PLATTE COUNTY, MO — Police say 43-year-old George C. Manning III was killed by a police officer during a manhunt on February 28 after he was accused of shooting three people, killing two, and abducting a five-year-old girl.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office said the first homicide occurred in Riverside, Missouri, near the intersection of Vivion Road and NW High Drive at approximately 11:15 p.m. on February 27 in the parking lot of a car wash.

Police say Manning shot the first victim, an adult female, in that parking lot and then took that victim’s vehicle from the scene. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Manning proceeded in the stolen vehicle immediately to the 4400 block of NW 50th Street in unincorporated Platte County. While at a residence in the 4400 block of NW 50th Street, Manning shot and severely injured an adult female, according to officials.

He then shot and killed a juvenile male, and abducted a five-year-old female from the residence before fleeing the scene, police said.

The adult female was transported to an area hospital for treatment, the juvenile male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An Amber Alert was issued for the five-year-old abducted female.

At approximately 5:10 a.m. on February 28, 2025, the abducted five-year-old female was located, safe and unharmed at a relative’s residence and the Amber Alert was canceled.

Manning was reported to have committed several felonies in Kansas City, Kansas, after the two homicides and child abduction. He then returned to Platte County, Missouri, in a stolen vehicle.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., Manning was located on foot just off Vivion Road near the intersection of Waukomis Drive.

He was shot during an officer involved shooting and was declared dead at the scene.

Further details of Manning’s death have yet to be released as of Monday evening.
