HOLLYWOOD, CA — A disturbing discovery at a Hollywood impound lot is now at the center of a growing police investigation, after a decomposed body was found in a Tesla registered to rising music star D4vd.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded just before 12:30 p.m. Monday to reports of a foul odor coming from a vehicle at Hollywood Tow on North Mansfield Avenue, according to an LAPD statement.

What they found inside the front trunk of the Tesla was described by sources as gruesome: a human body, badly decomposed and dismembered, placed in a bag.

TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, reported that the remains were “chopped up and heavily decomposed.”

NBC News, which also spoke with police sources, confirmed that the body was not intact and that identification would take time due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The car had reportedly been sitting in the tow yard for several days after it was impounded when someone reported it abandoned. It was registered in Hempstead, Texas, to 20-year-old singer David Anthony Burke — better known to fans as D4vd — who is currently in the middle of his international “Withered World Tour.”

NBC Los Angeles video footage from the scene showed crime scene tape surrounding the vehicle, while LAPD Capt. Robert Peters told the station the vehicle had only recently arrived at the lot.

So far, police have not released any information about the identity of the deceased or possible circumstances surrounding the death. As of Tuesday afternoon, the incident is being treated as a death investigation.

D4vd’s team has begun responding to the growing media interest. A spokesperson for the singer told NBC News that he has been made aware of the situation and, despite being on tour, “is fully cooperating with the authorities.” Universal Music Group, which owns Interscope Records — the label D4vd is signed to — directed further inquiries to the singer’s legal team. An attorney representing D4vd has not yet responded to requests for comment.

According to KABC, the Houston-based musician — who has over 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify and more than 3.6 million followers on TikTok — rose to prominence with viral tracks like “Here With Me” and “Romantic Homicide.” He released his debut album earlier this year and frequently credits his rise to fame to social media platforms.

D4vd is scheduled to perform Tuesday night at The Fillmore in Minneapolis. His next Los Angeles tour stop is set for September 20. At the time of reporting, the singer had not made any public comment about the case, and interactions on his social media accounts appear to be limited, with comment sections restricted on recent posts.
