EL PASO, TX — A domestic dispute that began over infidelity ended in deadly gunfire Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and another behind bars, according to police and local news reports.

El Paso Police said officers were called to the La Estancia Apartments on the 7900 block of Viscount Boulevard around 11:49 a.m. on Nov. 2 after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 36-year-old Miguel Garcia dead outside a second-floor apartment, according to a city news release. Garcia, a resident of East El Paso, was identified as the victim of an alleged murder carried out by 21-year-old Jaeveyin Antonio Porter, who was arrested soon after near 1100 Sunmount Drive.

According to police statements cited by KFOX14/CBS4, Porter allegedly shot and killed his wife’s uncle after an argument that had begun on Halloween and continued through the weekend.

Investigators said the couple had been fighting over infidelity. On Sunday morning, Porter’s wife reportedly went to church, then returned to the apartment with Garcia, hoping her uncle could help convince Porter to leave.

Police documents obtained by KFOX14 describe how the woman and Garcia told Porter they were outside and asked him to open the door. When he refused, Garcia allegedly forced his way in by using his body weight to break the door open. The woman told investigators she heard four gunshots and then saw Porter leaving the apartment with a gun in his hand.

According to the same outlet, Porter later told police that he had planned to open the door once his wife’s uncle left but began hearing banging noises and started recording on his cellphone instead. He admitted he did not call 911 and ended the interview, according to police reports.

Several witnesses recounted the moments surrounding the shooting, KFOX14/CBS4 reported. One neighbor told police they heard Garcia yelling in Spanish for Porter to open the door, followed by a series of gunshots. Another recalled hearing Porter’s wife confront him, asking why he shot Garcia, and Porter allegedly replying, “I don’t give a f*ck.”

Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit took over the case, the City of El Paso confirmed. Officers quickly located Porter on Sunmount Drive, about a four-minute walk from the apartment complex, and took him into custody without further incident.

Porter was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of murder, with Judge Sullivan presiding over the case, according to the city’s release. He was initially held without bond but was later given a $250,000 bond during a hearing Monday morning, KFOX14/CBS4 reported.

The El Paso Times noted that police have not publicly detailed the full nature of the relationship between Porter, his wife, and Garcia, citing the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact the El Paso Police Department at 915-832-4400 or to provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477.
