TOWN OF TURTLE, WI — A Wisconsin woman is accused of fatally stabbing her 14-year-old daughter inside their home, later telling authorities she carried out the killing to “protect” the teen from billionaire Elon Musk.
Tyiece L. Oninski, 41, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of her daughter, Kuren Rein, a freshman at Beloit Memorial High School. If convicted, she faces a mandatory life sentence, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
According to WMTV and court documents, Oninski called the Rock County Communications Center on March 20 using a non-emergency line and told dispatchers she had “murdered” her daughter the night before. The call lasted more than 13 minutes. During that conversation, she said she had killed the teen to “protect her from somebody else, period,” later specifying she believed she was protecting her from Musk.
She also told dispatchers she had attempted to take her own life after the killing and requested both an ambulance and a hearse. When asked if emergency responders should try to aid her daughter, Oninski allegedly replied, “she’s dead, honey. She needs a hearse,” according to WMTV.
Officers responding to the home in the 2000 block of East Gorton Street found Oninski waiting and suffering from what authorities described as a deep cut to her neck, injuries to both wrists, and a stab wound to her face or temple, according to WKOW. She was taken to a hospital for treatment and later arrested.
Inside the residence, investigators found Rein dead with multiple stab wounds. The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Department later determined the cause of death to be deep incise wounds to the right side of her neck, according to WKOW. Authorities noted there were no defensive wounds.
A knife and sheath were recovered near the girl’s body, and investigators documented a partial barefoot print at the scene. According to the complaint cited by WKOW, a detective later observed what appeared to be blood staining on the bottom of Oninski’s left foot.
A relative in the home, described as a grandfather figure to the teen, told investigators he had been asleep in a separate area and believed Rein had already left for school when the incident occurred, WKOW reported.
Toxicology results showed Oninski had benzodiazepines, amphetamines and THC in her system at the time she was hospitalized, according to multiple reports citing the complaint.
While receiving medical care, Oninski allegedly asked a deputy if her name was in the news and expressed disappointment when told it was not, WMTV reported.
Oninski made her initial court appearance Monday in Rock County, where a judge set her bond at $1 million cash, according to WKOW and court records cited by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She is scheduled to return to court on April 14.
