HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police have charged a 24-year-old man with murder after the body of a missing 23-year-old pregnant woman was found near a bayou a week after she disappeared.

KVUE reported that Kevin Faux has been charged in the death of Ashanti Allen, who was eight months pregnant with her first child, and that investigators identified Faux as the father of Allen’s unborn baby.

Police said Faux remains at large. Authorities released a September 2025 booking photo as they continued searching for him.

Allen had been missing since the previous Thursday. Her body was discovered around 9 a.m. Thursday at Chimney Rock Park near West Belfort with help from Texas EquuSearch. Her cause of death is still pending an autopsy.

Family members said Allen was last seen in her mother’s vehicle, which police later recovered. Allen’s mother also received a strange text message early the following Friday claiming Allen was leaving and not coming back, but relatives said that explanation made no sense because all of her belongings and baby items were still at her apartment.

Court records show Allen had been the victim in a family violence case a few months earlier involving a man she had been dating, according to the report. Her family said they only recently learned about that case.

Allen’s father, Edward Allen, said he was overwhelmed by the news. Relatives said the family had been preparing to welcome Allen’s baby and described her as a kind, quiet young woman who was working, planning for motherhood and trying to build her life.

Anyone with information on Kevin Faux’s whereabouts is asked to contact Houston Police Department Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
