LAS VEGAS, NV — Friends and family gathered again this year to celebrate the life of Tabatha Tozzi while keeping public attention on the stalled effort to extradite the man authorities say killed her in April 2023.

According to News 3 Las Vegas, this was the third celebration of life held for Tozzi since her death, as loved ones continue waiting for Oswaldo Perez-Sanchez, her then-boyfriend, to be returned to Nevada to face the case.

Tozzi’s mother, Regina Gomes, said her daughter was 26 when she was shot and killed. She described Tozzi as someone who always saw the good in people and said she had been a light since childhood.

Police previously said officers were called at about 10:54 a.m. on April 22, 2023, to the 8100 block of Leger Drive after a reported shooting. Officers found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound, and medical personnel took her to UMC, where she died a few days later.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said detectives determined Tozzi had been arguing with 26-year-old Oswaldo Natanahel Perez-Sanchez when he pulled out a firearm and shot her before fleeing the area.

Authorities said Perez-Sanchez was located on April 15, 2025, in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, by the Fiscalia Unidad Especializada en Aprehensiones with support from the Mexican Marines and Agencia Ministerial de Investigacion Criminal. The arrest came nearly two years after Tozzi’s killing.

LVMPD said Perez-Sanchez remains in Mexico on local charges pending extradition to the United States. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office told News 3 it is still working to bring him back to Las Vegas.

News 3 reported Perez-Sanchez is being held in a maximum-security jail in Mexico, where he is also accused of killing another woman, Vivian Karely Aispuro Cabanillas.

Gomes said she had always feared he would hurt someone else. She also said Tozzi’s friends have remained close to her, helping her through holidays, birthdays, and each yearly memorial gathering.

Tozzi’s best friend, Alicia, said Tozzi supported her through difficult moments, encouraged her to speak up for herself, and remained part of her life even after the birth of her daughter. Gomes said she now lives with Tozzi’s dog, Lulu, and still holds on to hope while trying to keep her daughter’s memory alive and help other young women and mothers.

Presumption of Innocence: A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is presumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The defendant in this case is only accused of the charges set forth in the criminal complaint. They are innocent until proven guilty.
